Review by The Minstrel Avenue Record: This album was released about four months after Paul's A Bit Too Close album and features several recordings that he calls "one-day wonders," described as songs written and recorded on the same day. More than half the songs appearing on this album fit this description, which gives the production a "looseness" seldom heard in contemporary recordings. Surprisingly enough, the spontaneity of those songs sold nearly four times as many copies as Paul's first album and provided listeners with several new Benshoof favorites. In addition to "one-day wonders," this album also introduces piano ballads into Paul's repertoire, delicately balancing the guitar-driven arrangements that permeate much of the rest of this collection. I'd Rather Wait for a Ride contains 11 Benshoof originals and includes favorites Running Through the Night With Your Sunglasses On and Once Upon a Time. |
